Ministry calls on municipalities to reduce fees for novice childminders

by time news

It must be made easier for novice childminders to open a shelter. If it is up to the Ministry of Social Affairs, municipalities will lower the fees for registering such a childcare facility in the National Childcare Register. In some municipalities these are so high that host parents do not follow through with their plans. This is reported by the Ministry of the Interior.

The GGD always carries out an inspection on behalf of the municipality before the start. If a childminder has been approved, the municipality will register it in the National Childcare Register. Many municipalities do this for free, but there are also plenty of municipalities that charge money for this. In Stadskanaal the fees are still affordable: 19 euros. But anyone who opens a childminder in Haarlem has to pay almost 800 euros for it.

Shortage of childcare places

Municipalities already have shortages of childcare places and the Ministry of Social Affairs fears that the high fees will lead to even fewer places. It therefore calls on municipalities to let go of those unnecessary thresholds and to be open about the calculation of the fee amount.
