The Ministry of Economy issued a decision stipulating that the commercial activity of agricultural pesticides and public health is considered an independent commercial activity, and not among the goods included in the category of cleaning and general hygiene materials, and the category of agricultural machinery and supplies.
The decision sets a set of legal and technical conditions and guarantees imposed by the nature of commercial work in agricultural pesticides, pest control, and the use of chemical compounds imposed by the legislation regulating agriculture and the environment, in terms of import, storage, trading, and sale of agricultural pesticides.
The decision directed the competent authorities in the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources and the Ministry of Environment, in cooperation with the Customs Authority, to follow up, adhere to, and meet the import conditions, in addition to what is stipulated regarding the storage, transportation, trading, and sale of pesticides.
Article 5 of the decision also prohibits the supply of agricultural pesticides that contain substances prohibited from being used in the composition of agricultural pesticide preparations approved under Resolution No. 248 of 2024, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources.
The decision exempted from implementing its provisions pesticides supplied by universities and research centers for the purpose of scientific research, provided that they are within the permitted quantities, and that they are committed to taking safety measures and not trading them.
