Vaccination against coronavirus in universities is voluntary, said the head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov, his words are quoted on the agency’s website.

The Minister urged to make every effort to avoid negative developments in the situation with COVID-19. According to him, it is necessary to create conditions for voluntary vaccination and ensure the safety of the educational process and students’ residence in hostels.

“I urge you to consistently, systematically, but at the same time carefully and balancedly move along the path of vaccination, creating conditions for everyone who would like to be vaccinated,” Falkov said at the final meeting of the board of the Ministry of Education and Science.

In June, the Council of Rectors of Universities of Moscow and the Moscow Region recommended that the capital’s universities, starting from the new academic year, allow only those students who were vaccinated against COVID-19, as well as those who have a certificate of the presence of antibodies or documents on contraindications to vaccination, to attend face-to-face classes. The rest must study remotely.

The Ministry of Education and Science said that Russian universities can decide for themselves whether to admit unvaccinated students to full-time classes.
