The Undersecretary of Finance and Public Credit, Gabriel Yorio, led a meeting in Oaxaca, in collaboration with the Ministries of Economy of Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chiapas, Yucatán and Campeche, with the aim of strengthening development in the Mexican south-southeast.

Gabriel Yorio highlighted that Mexico is experiencing economic growth between 3% and 4%, but highlighted that the southern states are growing twice as much thanks to investments in infrastructure.

The Government of Mexico has prioritized investment and development in the south-southeast after decades of lack of attention. These efforts have led to significant results, with the southern region experiencing 6% growth in the second quarter of this year compared to the previous year, ranking as the region with the highest growth in the entire country.

Oaxaca has established itself as the second federal entity with the highest economic growth in the country since the start of the pandemic in 2020. This growth reflects the importance of public investment in infrastructure and its long-term impact.

Tax incentives have been implemented for companies that choose to invest in the Isthmus, maximizing the opportunities offered by the south-southeast region. Collaboration between state governments, companies and international organizations is essential to make the most of these opportunities and provide the region’s inhabitants with complementary skills that allow them to participate in strategic sectors.

The IDB has played a fundamental role in this process, supporting investments in infrastructure and offering technical advice to both the public and private sectors. Since 2019, the IDB has provided 31 Technical Cooperations to federal entities, investing around $7 million in areas such as environment, health, education, security and governance. Oaxaca and Chiapas have received 20% of these cooperations, with an investment of 1.3 million dollars, which has also been directed to entrepreneurs in the region to promote the adoption of digital and commercial skills.
