As part of the Project to Strengthen Comprehensive Care, Detection, Prevention, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of People with Disabilities; On May 22, 2023, the Zonal Coordination 8 (CZ8) of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) delivered 2,800 technical aids to people with disabilities.
This strengthening project has the purpose of guaranteeing access to the delivery of technical aids and continuous and comprehensive care for people with some type of disability and priority care groups at risk of developing disabilities.
The technical aids were delivered by the Minister of Health (s), Carmen Guerrero and the Zonal 8 – Health coordinator, Lucy Jurado, at the Guasmo Sur General Hospital (HGGS) in Guayaquil.
People with disabilities received this benefit after being assessed and evaluated by a health professional from the MSP.
Zonal Coordination 8 invested $1.9 million in the acquisition of walkers, canes, crutches, standard wheelchairs, postural chairs, diapers, anti-decubitus mattresses and cushions, hearing aids, cochlear implants, and implant processors.
2,400 mobility and self-care technical aids were received; and 360 hearing aids: 40 cochlear implants, 11 external processors and 309 hearing aids.
“When they gave me the news I was very happy because for my Lizzie who has microcephaly and cannot move on her own; a wheelchair will be of great help. Also the anti-decubitus mattress because she has a deviated part of the spine and with the mattress she will be able to be comfortable, ”said the mother of the family, Diana Martínez.
It is important to mention that the CZ8 has seven disability qualification teams.
Until the year 2025, it is expected to serve more than 84,000 people with disabilities in Zone 8. Likewise, continue with the delivery of technical aids that promote self-care, mobility and autonomy.
