The Ministry of Health announced the lifting of the state of emergency in the southern region after the heavy rains that fell in the city of Sabha last night, which led to a rise in the water level inside the city’s neighborhoods.

According to the ministry’s statement, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Ramadan Abu Janah issued instructions to the Ambulance and Emergency Department and the Emergency Medicine and Support Department to transfer critical cases to receive treatment in the city of Tripoli and to provide all necessary assistance to citizens.

Abu Janah also instructed all relevant institutions in the municipalities of the southern region to form an emergency room, and to harness all capabilities, including water suction vehicles and four-wheel drive vehicles, and to head to the affected areas in the city of Sabha in anticipation of any emergency, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to preserve the safety of citizens and their property.

The media office of the Government of National Unity confirmed that the Minister of Health also issued instructions to limit all damages in the areas affected by the rains, and to provide medical and humanitarian services to those affected.

The General Electricity Company announced that work is underway to urgently repair the damage, noting that technical teams have been able to restore electricity to most areas in Sabha.

In the same context, the spokesman for the Meteorological Center, Mohieddin Ali, confirmed earlier to Al-Ahrar that the amount of rain that fell on Sabha, estimated at 63 millimeters, had not been recorded since 2007.

Mohi El-Din expected that rain would continue to fall in the southwest, especially Ghat and its surroundings, warning of the flow of some valleys shared between Libya and Algeria.

For his part, the mayor of Ghat, Ibrahim Al-Khalil, reassured the residents of the area that the situation is good so far, noting that the necessary precautions are being taken in anticipation of any emergency due to the expected rains.

The spokeswoman for the Sabha Medical Center, Halima Al-Mahri, confirmed that there were two deaths and about 50 injuries, most of them minor, as a result of the heavy rains that hit the city last night.
