The Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, released a report on the current situation of dengue in El Salvador, highlighting that the country is declining in cases compared to other countries in America.

“We have always been committed to the health of Salvadorans. In the Americas there is a significant incidence of arboviruses and it is a good time to strengthen actions that help prevent the proliferation of the transmitting mosquito,” said the Health Minister.

He added that El Salvador is the country in Central America that registers the lowest number of cases per inhabitants, according to the data available in the Health Information Platform for the Americas (PLISA):

“We have accumulated 1,715 days without deaths due to dengue. This is very important and demonstrates the effectiveness of all the anti-vector actions that we have been carrying out throughout the year,” said Alabi.

For his part, the representative of the World Health Organization, Geovani Escalante, explained that approximately five million suspected cases are reported in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“The proportion of severe dengue and the fatality rate has been decreasing and this is due to the action of the countries in terms of timely diagnosis,” said Escalante.
