The Director General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash, and the Corona Projector, Prof. Salman Zarqa, vaccinated against Corona and Flu and called on those 65+ and the risk groups to get vaccinated now and get ahead of the expected wave of morbidity this coming winter. Prof. Ash and Prof. Zarka noted that recently a large-scale media campaign appeared in the various media, calling on the public to get vaccinated with both vaccines: against the Omicron strain and against the flu. “A high response to these two vaccines will prevent serious illness and hospitalizations in the hospitals, which are expected to be busy this coming winter, and will save human lives,” they said. According to them, an average of ten corona patients are admitted to the hospitals every day in a serious condition.
In a press briefing held yesterday (Wed), Prof. Zarka said that “In light of the data we see from around the world, we are preparing this coming winter for a double wave of illness from Corona and the flu, which may be more difficult than previous winters.” According to Zarka, new waves of corona have appeared in Europe that may not have reached Israel yet due to the holidays, and the potential for the appearance of another wave of sickness – both of corona and of influenza – is increasing. Zarka added that new variants of the virus, created abroad and originating from Omicron, have arrived in Israel.
Prof. Ash and Prof. Zarka call on the public not to wait for the wave to rise, but to go and get vaccinated now, in order to improve protection against diseases. “The Ministry of Health”, it was reported, “has ensured the availability of corona vaccines adapted to the Omicron strain, and you can be vaccinated with them if three months have passed since the date of the last vaccination or recovery from corona.”
