Ministry of Health Warns Against Dangerous Use of “Gas Canisters” Leading to Neurological Damage

The Ministry of Health issued a statement today warning the public about the use of “gas canisters” that are sold illegally at parties and kiosks across the country. This warning comes after two young women in the south were hospitalized due to the use of these “gas canisters” and suffered significant neurological damage. The Ministry of Health is currently reviewing the case.

This incident is the second in the last month where the use of “gas foam” has led to the hospitalization of young individuals. “Gas foam” is commonly used among children and teenagers, but it can have severe side effects. These include impaired consciousness, neurological damage, paranoia, anxiety, dizziness, hallucinations, and a drop in blood pressure.

The Ministry of Health is working closely with enforcement agencies to combat this phenomenon. Over the past year, hundreds of thousands of containers with “gas canisters” have been seized. Just recently, a joint operation between the Division for Enforcement and Supervision of the Ministry of Health and the Israel Police resulted in the seizure of large quantities of “gas canisters” suspected of being sold to teenagers. These were found in explosions and supermarkets in Ashdod. Additionally, closure orders have been issued to two places where “gas foam” containers were being sold in the past year.

Dr. Roni Berkowitz, Director of the Division for Enforcement and Supervision at the Ministry of Health, expressed concern about the use of “gas canisters” and its impact on children. He emphasized that while this product may initially provide a feeling of euphoria, it can lead to severe and life-threatening side effects. Dr. Berkowitz urged children and youth to prioritize their health and avoid using “gas foam”. He also encouraged parents to familiarize themselves with the dangers of the product and discuss the issue with their children.

The Ministry of Health’s warning serves as a reminder to the public about the potential dangers of using “gas canisters” and the need for stricter regulation and enforcement measures to prevent further harm. Awareness and education efforts are crucial to ensure the safety and wellbeing of individuals, especially the younger population.
