Ministry of Information announced 100 days action plan

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced the action plan for the next 100 days. During this period, it is planned to take initiatives to form an independent media commission, media workers (conditions of employment) law and rational reform of the salary structure of journalists.

On Thursday (September 12) in the secretariat, the advisor of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Nahid Islam announced these plans.

He said that Press Institute Bangladesh and Directorate of Films and Publications will work together to make a documentary including all the corruption, lawlessness, repression, crimes against humanity, recent massacres etc. that took place during the previous government’s tenure from 2009 to 2024.

Md. Nahid Islam said that initiatives will be taken to make Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar efficient and people-friendly. A documentary film will be produced and broadcast on Bangladesh Television about the martyred and injured students and their families in the July uprising. Initiatives will be taken to enact broadcasting laws. Initiatives will be taken to enact legislation after necessary amendments to the guidelines related to delegation of administrative and financial powers.

He also said that initiatives will be taken to reform the organizational structure of Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and other departments/organizations. Necessary reforms in laws, rules and policies will be made for media freedom. Initiatives will be taken to modernize the licensing policy of online newsportals. Initiatives will be taken to involve the young generation in film production. Necessary initiatives will be taken for digitization of cable TV network.

The information adviser said that the ongoing projects will be implemented properly or necessary reforms will be undertaken. Business Solutions Program has been initiated for income generation programs of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). The Bangladesh Film Development Corporation Act, 1957 will be updated. Bangladesh Betar will broadcast an episode titled ‘On the way to non-discrimination Bangladesh’ about the student uprising and the martyred students.

He said, initiatives will be taken to formulate policies regarding the participation of irregular artists of Bangladesh Betar. The program will be aired on Bangladesh Television based on interviews with family members of martyred/injured students in the anti-discrimination student movement, the context of the movement, organizing and moving forward in an orderly manner through the coordinators. An informative program on wall writing, slogans and graffiti will be broadcast on Bangladesh Television across the country including Dhaka. The online newsportal and social media platform of Bangladesh News Agency (BASS) will be modernized with the publication of 200 features about the families of martyred and injured students in the student movement.

The Information and Broadcasting Adviser said that the main goals and objectives of the anti-discrimination student movement will be promoted at the grassroots level, including creating public awareness among students to build a youth-based Bangladesh.

He said that the film and publication department will make a documentary on the identity of all the martyrs in the student movement and an album will be made on the graffiti on the walls. The aims and objectives of the anti-discrimination student-mass movement and state reform-based features will be revealed. National Mass Media Institute will organize a seminar based on the role of the media and other stakeholders in creating a discrimination-free Bangladesh.

Besides, films under censored status by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board will be evaluated based on policy and rationale. The National Advisory Committee on Films will be reconstituted. Initiatives will be taken to update some sections of the Press Institute Bangladesh Act 2018. Initiatives will be taken to update some sections of the Right to Information Act 2009 by amending them. He also said that the existing job rules of the Information Commission will be updated.
