The launch event of the Startup World Cup Amazonas championship was held today in Samborondón, at the Espíritu Santo University of Specialties (UEES), an event that brings together the highlights of the exponential transformation, innovation, disruptive businesses, creativity and emerging technologies sector.

This meeting was attended by the Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries (MPCEIP), Sonsoles García, along with the Mayor of Samborondón, Juan José Yúnez; it also brought together representatives and leaders of this important industry.

Startup World Cup Amazonas is the Ecuadorian edition of the Startup World Cup, a global conference and competition where high-impact startups, companies that aim to innovate, speakers and experts of the highest academic level meet to address topics related to entrepreneurship, especially digital entrepreneurship, and investors who evaluate and are willing to support these new ways of doing business.

Minister Sonsoles García officially inaugurated this day of competition and knowledge, highlighting the work carried out by the MPCEIP to promote innovation and support creative ventures, where she pointed out that, without a doubt, this type of event puts on the table for discussion and debate the issues that the world is talking about and that Ecuador needs to talk about in order not to be left behind with respect to its peers.

“This meeting also highlights the changes we are experiencing in the world of business and emerging companies, and the need to create spaces that provide the opportunity to connect all the actors linked to startups to expand their network of contacts at a local and international level, and develop alliances and opportunities,” emphasized Minister García.

For his part, the mayor of Samborondón, Juan José Yúnez, congratulated this initiative and pointed out that Ecuadorians must begin to open their horizons a little more to start exporting the talent we have in our country to the entire world; and do the things that are needed to satisfy the demand that exists at an international level, because we have the necessary and prepared human capital in Ecuador to make it a reality.

Around the world, more than 100 regional startup competitions are held on six continents, leading up to the grand finale that will take place in San Francisco, California, USA, on October 4, 2024, which will award one million dollars in investment to promote the winner’s idea. Ecuadorian participants will have the opportunity to present their ideas and projects to a jury of experts and potential investors, and the winner will obtain a place in the final to be held in the United States.

In this way, the National Government continues to continuously support the development of Ecuadorian entrepreneurship, through innovation, with a projection of internationalization and job creation, which will have a positive impact on the well-being of the country.
