On June 26 and 27, 2024, the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries (MPCEIP), together with the General Secretariat of the Andean Community, held the workshop Andean Trade Defense Mechanisms”with the aim of informing the Ecuadorian productive sector about the actions that countries can take in response to the sudden increase in imports and unfair trade practices.

The course was attended by twenty representatives of productive associations and Ecuadorian companies, who strengthened their knowledge of the elements involved in investigations for the application of trade defense measures, such as safeguards, antidumping measures and compensatory measures.

The topics addressed at the workshop included: the definition of each trade defense measure, grounds for invoking the measure, content of the request, procedure, analysis of the similar product, causal relationship, calculation of the normal value and export price, determination of dumping, representativeness and analysis of damage or threat of damage.

These types of workshops are part of the Ministry’s work to support the actions of the national productive sector, in this case through strengthening the capacities to submit requests for the application of trade defense measures, which are provided for in bilateral, regional and multilateral trade regulations.
