José Manuel Miñones, until now a government delegate in Galicia, becomes the new Minister of Health to replace Carolina Darias, who is running for the elections on May 28 as a socialist candidate for Mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

In an institutional statement this Monday at the Palacio de la Moncloa, the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced the appointment of Miñones Conde as head of Health and also that of Héctor Gómez as Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism in the place of Reyes Maroto, head of the poster for the Madrid City Council in the next municipal elections.

Miñones, who currently held the position of Government delegate in the autonomous community of Galicia, has a degree in Pharmacy, Doctor Cum laude from the University of Santiago de Compostela and is a researcher.

Sánchez stressed that Carolina Darias will go down in history for the success of the vaccination campaign against covid in Spain, more than 92% of the population over 12 years of age, after taking the reins of the ministry on January 27, 2021, in full coronavirus pandemic.

It has also highlighted that during the term of Carolina Darias, who was also previously Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Function, the Mental Health Plan, the remodeling of Primary Care infrastructures and the largest offer of positions for resident doctors have been approved, MIR, “of history”.

The new appointments, two men replacing two women, take place in the final stretch of the legislature and represent the fifth reshuffle of Pedro Sánchez’s Cabinet.
