The murder of Army Major Fabián Humberto Bueno Carranza and his young daughter in their apartment in northern Bogotá has left the country in a state of shock.
Colonel Leonardo Bernal Pérez, of the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá, reported that a report was received through the emergency line 123 about a domestic violence fight in a house in the town of Suba. Upon arriving at the scene, the patrol found four people, two of them dead, belonging to the same family.
The victims were identified as Fabián Humberto Bueno Carranza, 42, an active-duty Army officer, and his youngest daughter. The soldier’s 37-year-old wife and 14-year-old son were also at the scene. The mother, along with her son, was the only survivor of the brutal attack.
The preliminary report of Forensic Medicine, revealed by Semana Magazine, revealed extreme violence at the crime scene, cwith more than 100 stab wounds to the body of the eldest and 72 to that of his daughter. The prime suspect is the officer’s teenage son.

The National Army, after learning of the events, issued a statement expressing its deep regret for the tragedy. “The National Army Command deeply regrets the events in which Major Fabián Humberto Bueno Carranza and his daughter, a minor, died. We express our unrestricted support to the judicial authorities who are carrying out the investigation of the events and who will allow them to establish the circumstances of time, manner and place that surrounded this unfortunate situation,” the institution declared.
Two days after the tragedy, during an arraignment hearing, the minor accepted charges for the murder of his sister and father during the family dispute on Monday.
After the court hearing, the minor was sent to a Criminal Responsibility Unit for Adolescentswhere he will remain in custody. Meanwhile, the young man’s mother is recovering in a medical centre from the wounds inflicted by her son.
