Tom defended his interim belt with the utmost confidence.

As reported by İdman.biz with reference to “Championship”, on the night of July 27-28, a major numbered tournament UFC 304 took place in Manchester. In the co-main event of the evening, heavyweights Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes met in a fight for the interim champion title.

This was their second meeting. Two years ago, Aspinall and Blades fought in London, but the fight ended very quickly and, in fact, did not answer the question of which of these fighters was better. Already in the 15th second, Tom stumbled after his own blow and grabbed his knee. Formally, it was a technical knockout victory for Blades. After that, Aspinall managed to return and knock out Marcin Tybura, and then Sergei Pavlovich in a fight for the interim belt. And the Briton approached the rematch with Blades as almost the best heavyweight in the world – so impressed was everyone, returning from injury.

In turn, Curtis demolished Brazilian prospect Jaelton Almeida on his way to the fight for the interim title. The fighters met at the UFC 299 tournament, and there, after waiting out the onslaught, Blaydes knocked out Almeida with elbow strikes. Thus, the American closed the early defeat to Pavlovich and got the opportunity to fight Aspinall again. Before their second meeting, fans expected to get answers to two questions – “How does Aspinall defend himself from wrestling?” and “Will the Briton prove that the defeat in the first fight was really an unfortunate accident?”

Aspinall began to circle his opponent as usual, but his first attempts to get closer almost ended in failure. The Briton jerked away too quickly and literally “ate” several clean blows to the jaw. Tom’s grip did not fail, he slightly held Blaydes and returned to a comfortable distance. And the next exchange was the last in this fight. Aspinall missed again, but this time he got hit himself. A pair of punches landed on Blaydes’ head, he fell to the canvas and received a hail of finishing blows from above. There was no active defense, and Mark Goddard stopped the fight, despite the fact that Curtis was clearly not very happy about it.

It took Aspinall just a minute to avenge his only UFC defeat and defend his interim title. The Brit also confirmed that he doesn’t need much time to deal with his opponents. And after the fight, Tom did what was expected of him – he challenged Jon Jones. This is the last barrier to greatness, and this potential fight does not look good for Kostyany.
