Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan for the first time in a two-match Test series in August-September. Mehdi Hasan Miraj won the series best award by showing all-round skill with bat and ball.
On that day, announcing that the prize money of the series winner would be given to the family of a rickshaw driver who was martyred during the anti-discrimination student movement, Miraj said, ‘I have become the series winner for the first time outside the country. I will never forget this moment. This is dedicated to the students who died in the anti-discrimination student movement. A rickshaw puller was injured in that movement. He died later. I want to give the prize money to the family of that rickshaw puller.’
Miraj handed over 5 lakh Pakistani rupees or 2 lakh 14 thousand taka to the family of the rickshaw driver who died on Wednesday after returning home. He confirmed this on Thursday (September 12) through a post on social media.
Miraj wrote on Facebook with a picture, ‘Recently I saw a video that spread online. The words of the crying voice of the child of a rickshaw puller’s brother who was killed in the anti-discrimination student movement in the video made me think again and again.
‘I resolved to stand by that brother’s family. I promised to hand over the prize money of Pakistan series ‘Man of the Series’ to them. Finally the goal was fulfilled. I was able to hand over this money to them yesterday.’
‘I know, this money is nothing compared to the life lost. My purpose is to make their life a little easier with this little money of mine.’
