Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic runner-up Mirela Demireva won the women’s high jump title at the Balkan Indoor Athletics Championships in Istanbul (Turkey).

The Bulgarian triumphed with 1.89 meters, which she achieved on the second attempt. She started the competition with 1.80, cleared on the first attempt. In the same way, he coped with the following heights – 1.83 and 1.86 meters.

Having already secured the gold medal, Demireva made three unsuccessful attempts at 1.97 meters, which is the norm for the Olympic Games.

The second place was taken by Daniela Stancu (Romania) with 1.86 meters, followed by Panayota Dosi (Greece) with the same result.

Kristen Radukanova finished eighth in the 60m final with 7.54 seconds. The Greek Poliniki Emmanuelidou became the Balkan champion with 7.30 seconds.

In the women’s 400 meters run, a problem occurred with the timing system. Andrea Savova finished fifth in the third fastest heat with 56.9 seconds measured manually. In this series, Alexandra Stefania Uta (Romania) finished first with 54.6 seconds. The final standings are still awaited because in the other two series the results were measured electronically.

Among the men, Ioannis Nifantopoulos (Greece) became the Balkan champion in 60 meters with 6.69 seconds.

Bulgaria has one gold and two bronze medals from the competition so far, after earlier today Plamena Mitkova took third place in the women’s long jump and Bozhidar Saraboyukov came third in the long jump.
