This Saturday, July 6, the death of Mirta Diaz-Balartwho was the first wife of the Cuban dictator Fidel Castroand mother of her first child.

Mirta died at the age of 95 in Madrid, and the information was released by her grandson, Fidel Alejandro Castro Smirnov.

In this regard, the grandson of the Castro tyrant stated that Mirta Díaz-Balart died “surrounded by a lot of love.”

“My beloved grandmother Mirta Díaz-Balart Gutiérrez has passed away. A great woman has left us. Her end is not death. Her special affection, loyalty and extraordinary story will remain eternal. She will continue to be the most concrete and kind form of beauty,” wrote Fidel Alejandro on his social network account X (formerly Twitter), where he also shared several photographs of the elderly woman.

It is worth mentioning that Mirta Díaz-Balart was born in Havana in 1928. She studied Philosophy and Literature at the University of Havana, where she met the dictator Fidel Castro, whom she married in 1948, when she was 19 and he was 22. They later divorced in 1955, shortly before the criminal came to power on the island.

After divorcing Fidel, Mirta remarried in 1956 to Emilio Núñez Portuondo, with whom she had several children and moved to Spain. Her daughter, Mirta Núñez Díaz-Balart, is currently director of the Chair of Historical Memory at the Complutense University of Madrid.

Mirta had only one son with the walking ashtray, Fidel Castro Díaz-Balart, who took his own life in Cuba in 2018, just two years after his father’s death.
