Miscalculation: desalination plant does not enter the Hercules by 15 centimeters and its arrival is delayed

Due to a miscalculation, for several more weeks, OSE will have to continue delivering water with a salty taste and high concentrations of sodium. The Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC) developed a desalination plant thatUnfortunately, it cannot be transported through the planes purchased by the Uruguayan government.

The calculation error is the following: 15 centimeters has generated a delay in the delivery of said plant to the country. Álvaro Delgado, Secretary of the Presidency, has reported that the plant is expected to be shipped in the coming weeks by sea.

Today, the Secretary of the Presidency of Uruguay, Álvaro Delgado, has announced the arrival of a desalination plant, designed by the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC), as a response to the drinking water supply crisis that affects the Metropolitan area.

Delgado explained that the delay is due to the fact that the machinery in question cannot be transported by Hercules planes purchased by the government in 2021 due to a difference of only 15 centimeters.

The desalination plant will come by boat

The desalination plant, designed by UTEC and currently located in Houston, Texas (where built)was scheduled to be transferred to Uruguay, where it would be installed and later used in the country.

However, after performing the corresponding calculations, it has been determined that the equipment does not meet the necessary standard dimensions to be transported in one of the planes acquired from Spain by the Ministry of National Defense in 2021.

“We are going to use multiple desalination plants, among which stands out the one owned by UTE in Punta del Tigre of Reverse Osmosis. In addition, we had planned the transfer of another plant designed by UTEC, which was located in Houston. Unfortunately, due to a difference of 15 centimeters, apparently it is impossible to transport it in the Hercules plane”, Delgado declared during a press conference held this Monday.

Due to all this, the citizens of the Metropolitan Area (Montevideo and Canelones) must continue to consume water with a high sodium load, since the fluid is being taken from the Río de la Plata.
