For 24 hours, R7 Autos Carros had a quick mission to test the Mercedes-Benz EQS, which is a luxury electric sedan. Despite just a few hours aboard the sedan that is the brand’s flagship on its way to electrification. The hatchback is equipped with three large screens, 658 hp engines and can travel up to 580 km on one battery charge. If you want to know how much it costs to buy it, the price is at the end of the text.

NEW electric Mercedes EQS 53 AMG with 658hp and costing BRL 1.4 million now in BRAZIL. See the video!

With an innovative design, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4Matic+ draws attention wherever it goes, even with a dark color that is not so bold for the modern lines of the bodywork. But if the customer wants a touch of daring, he can choose the Manufaktur red tone, which is optional and costs R$ 5,000 more. The other shades are variations of gray, black and dark blue, which is not very bold for a sedan with such a futuristic proposal. In this case, the color palette could be wider.

Wheels can be 21 or 22 inches. The tested model had 21 inches shod with 275/40 tires with a sporty profile. Even the star design is classic, making a counterpoint to the modern lines of the entire vehicle.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4Matic+ is also typical of science fiction movie cars, as it features three large high-resolution screens. A 12.3-inch instrument panel, a giant 17.7-inch multimedia center and another large screen for the passenger. All these “televisions” have the brand’s famous MBUX system, which allows full integration with a smartphone and has voice commands for easy handling.

However, the daily use of these screens is unnecessary and can even disturb the driver, as it is too much information for the eyes. Passengers will rarely use the multimedia center in front of them, since the central screen is wider, brighter and easier to use. Of course, it is worth it for the futuristic idea, although in practice it is rarely used, since it mirrors the content of the main center.

In terms of size, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4Matic+ measures 5.22 meters in length, which is big and even reminds you of the golden age of large combustion sedans sold in the past as the older generations of the S-Class. it’s not in any vacancy or garage that it will fit. The wheelbase is 3.21 meters, which is more than enough for a person sitting in the back seats to stretch their legs well. With a width of 1.92 meters, it is possible to carry three adults without any restrictions on the back. The height of 1.51 meters is little, but it does not interfere. The trunk is flat and has a capacity of 580 liters, allowing you to carry a lot of luggage.

Not day to day

Equipped with two electric motors, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4Matic+ has a front thruster with 238 hp and another at the rear with 455 hp. Together they deliver 658 hp with a torque of 96.9 kgfm. This mechanical set is more than necessary to run in everyday life. Including, if you want to walk around the city and take a stretch of road, as we did in the test. Of course, on the road you have to be careful, as it easily exceeds 100 km/h, since zero to 100 km/h is done in just 3.8 seconds. The maximum speed is 220 km/h, which is also far above what our streets set out to be.

The driver’s position is favorable and comfortable, which allows driving without any suffocation, as it has electrical adjustments in the seats and steering wheel with millimeter precision. However, the luxury sedan has a suspension that is a little stiff for walking on Brazilian streets, which makes a noise at the end of the shock absorber course in some ditches. At the front it has independent wishbones and at the rear it has a multi-link suspension. Both front and rear springs are pneumatic, providing comfort to vehicle occupants.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4Matic+ is equipped with a 107.8 kWh battery, which allows it to have a range of up to 580 km. However, we noticed in these 24 hours that if you step on the pedal, this autonomy drops quickly. Therefore, whoever is going to buy one needs to dose the foot on the accelerator, although it is fun to accelerate the electric sedan with immediate torque of 96.9 kgfm.

Equipment

As is to be expected from a luxury vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4Matic+ has a long list of equipment. In this case, it comes equipped with automatic four-zone air conditioning, electric parking brake, Auto Hold, live wheel, rear wheel steering, which helps a lot when parking, electronic damping control, cruise control, adaptive cruise control, multifunction steering wheel, native GPS navigator, but not online, traffic sign recognition, Head-up display, inductive smartphone charger, Burmester premium sound system, semi-automatic parking assistant, among others other items.

It is worth it?

Well, for those who want to lavish “futurism”, sophistication, technology and also not pollute the environment, the luxury electric sedan is a good option, as it delivers a great level of internal finish, more than enough engine for everyday use and has an autonomy that allows you to travel without fear of being on the road due to lack of charging station. Of course, whoever intends to buy a Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4Matic+ will have to spend at least R$ 1,428,900, which makes this sedan something unusual on the streets of Brazil, but squanders the brand’s future in favor of electrification and modern integration of devices and components of the vehicle to an enviable electric proposal model.
