Our review of “Mission Impossible 7”

If there’s one action movie to watch during the 2023 summer vacation, it’s probably this “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1”. The feature film worn by Tom Cruise is intense spectacular entertainment accumulating at least three moments of bravery (at the airport, in the streets of Rome and the final scene on the train, we won’t say more) that leave the spectators glued to the back of their seats. Irresistible humor, frenetic pace, bewildering stunts, epic fights and reflection on the excesses of artificial intelligence, this seventh opus offers an explosive cocktail that works on all levels.

Ce Mission Impossible thus succeeds the skilful mixture between pure spectacle and modern political reflection, between entertainment and seriousness. First, on the dangers of artificial intelligence at the geopolitical, artistic and individual level. But this seventh episode also questions the franchise, reusing themes and scenes from the saga to open up to the future, in particular with the characters of Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff, overwhelming with charisma, who almost manage to steal the spotlight from franchise veterans. “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1” will reconcile everyone for sure, fans of the saga, and those who have not been convinced so far.

Synopsis – Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, and his team embark on a highly dangerous new mission: to track down a new weapon before it threatens all of humanity. It’s a real deadly race to the four corners of the world that begins for the agent, while an enigmatic enemy puts the lives of his loved ones in danger.

The making-of of the film in video

For this seventh film of the license where Cruise plays agent Ethan Hunt, the actor embarked on a new challenge where he had no room for error: throwing himself from the top of a Norwegian cliff to end up in a dangerous parachute jump. During a making-of video, director Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise explain how they did it. Between the relentless training but also the millimeter calculations of the actor’s trajectories to be able to film the sequence in the most immersive way possible, this sequence was a headache to shoot.

When is Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 2 coming out?

The most attentive spectators will not have missed it, the seventh opus of the impossible franchise is entitled “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1”. There will therefore be a sequel to the action film, since the plot is divided into two feature films. Let the fans be reassured however, part 1 does not end on a cliffhanger and we can decently wait before discovering the sequel. And fortunately, since the release is, for the time being, announced in French cinemas for June 26, 2024. It could nevertheless be postponed due to the writers’ strike which is currently agitating Hollywood.

Is there a post-credits scene at the end of Mission Impossible 7?

Marvel films have imposed the fashion for post-credits scenes, so much so that when the names scroll on the screen, a moment of hesitation invades the room: should we stay until the end in the hope of seeing a new scene? In the case of “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning”, the answer will relieve the spectators, since no additional scene is visible in the middle or at the end of the end credits. So you can leave the room with peace of mind!
