With the international ones evaluations of universities we get tangled up easily. We are pleased to note that we have 3-4 representatives in the top hundreds and do not engage more – after all, these tables have structural problems and are highly contested by many countries. With the PISA, but things are serious. Here Greece is constantly falling. And if it is true that the same is observed with the performance of 15-year-old students in dozens of countries, the downfall of the Greeks is much more dramatic.

What’s wrong; The obvious culprit is the children: they don’t pay attention, they don’t read, they don’t care, they click. But this explanation merely attempts to camouflage the problem. And to “exonerate” the other three factors in the equation, namely teachersthem parents and the politicians.

The former, in addition to the absence of contagiousness, are accused of two other things. For not being supportive enough towards students. And for what they are charged with too much reading at home. Their answer is that there are few. But the recruitment of teachers without changing the way of teaching they won’t solve the problem. And this certainly does not mean “Singaporeizing” education, but finding ways to increase students’ interest and participation in the course.

The parents’ responsibility should be sought, among other things, in the fact that Greek students have from lower levels of “stress resistance” among OECD countries. But why so much stress? Because parents don’t spend enough time with their children, don’t discuss school-related issues with them, don’t participate? And instead they send them to tutoring, French and piano, ignoring their need to relax?

Remains o role of governments. One would say that the fact that school socioeconomic inequalities in Greece are smaller compared to other countries shows that the system here is not so competitive. “France only cares about good students,” historian Claude Lelievre tells Libération, trying to explain the deeply and persistently unequal nature of the French education system highlighted by successive PISA reports. The bad thing is that Greek “equality” is achieved downwards, not upwards. In other words, the performances of those from lower strata do not improve, the performances of the privileged worsen…

Education ministers cannot of course go into the classroom and teach. But why is Greece? penultimately in the OECD as to preparation for digital learning; And why does it take one of the last places in terms of preparing for distance learning both before and after the pandemic?

THE Kyriakos Pierrakakis he is the man who modernized public administration. The mission he has undertaken from his new position is even more important.
