Taking the Word of God to the most difficult places to evangelize, this was the mission that a couple of missionaries decided to embrace, fulfilling the “go” of the Great Commission, confirm what Jesus Christ taught.

According to information from the electronic magazine Baptist Pressthe missionary couple first worked at the Catawba Baptist Church, in the United States, where they were spiritually trained to deal with missions.

Before going to Thailand, a country with a Buddhist majority, the evangelists went to Peru, where they worked for more than a decade planting churches. The names of the brothers in Christ were not revealed for security reasons.

One of them, however, spoke about the experience of serving God in a forest. “One night we were in our hammock in an Asheninka tribal community and we were overcome with a sense of freedom to move forward and make the decision to leave Peru,” he said.

Evangelizing Buddhists

In Thailand, the missionaries had to spend a long 11 years adapting to the local culture, learning the language and understanding the customs of the locals. “Patience, consistency and living faithfully for Christ are important ingredients,” they said.

In fact, only through community involvement were they able to reach Buddhists in the region. One of the strategies used was the offer of ophthalmological exams. The Word of God came to light during consultations and home visits.

“During visits we sit down and share the Gospel with each person in their home,” the couple said. “Thai people typically respond to the Gospel one by one over a long period of time.”

Thanks to the Holy Spirit of God acting through the missionaries, dozens of Buddhists gave their lives to Christ and were able to be baptized. “This was something very bold for them, defending Christ in the face of so many unbelievers,” they concluded.
