A missionary caught the attention of social media by criticizing the lyrics of a song performed by teenage singer Maria Marçal. The excerpt from her ministry went viral on the web and ended up generating debate about the objectives of praising God.

According to the website Assemblyanos de Valor, the ministry took place during a convention of workers from the Assembly of God Ministry of Perus, in São Paulo, and the missionary responsible for the message is called Cristina Maranhão.

Basically, the missionary’s criticism focused on the fact that some songs currently exalt human beings instead of God. These are songs that in the gospel world belong to what some theologians classify as “positive confession”.

The evangelist, for example, made reference to an excerpt from the song “Uma algo nova”, performed by Maria Marçal and Eurice Diniz. She, however, was also criticized by internet users and other singers, such as Elaine de Jesus and Silvan Santos, as some considered her warning an exaggeration, supposedly, for disregarding the poetic freedom of Christian composers, second the JM News.

gospel reviews

The missionary Cristina Maranhão is not the only one to make recent criticisms of the gospel milieu. Singer Edu Lucassi also came out recently to announce his departure from the segment.

The singer criticized the way religious leaders have been dealing with gospel artists, arguing that many would be more interested in exploring the commercial side of the segment, instead of glorifying God.

“I’ve already recorded 2 albums, clips, trips and etc. I’ve met many people, as I said, good people and people with a selfish heart who just want to take advantage of others and rip the choir out of the sheep without caring about their feelings”, shot Lucassi.
