For many years the singer who is considered the queen of pop, Madonna, Tells of her special connection to the Jewish Kabbalah. In honor of Hanukkah, she shared on her Instagram account a special tribute she made, but apparently the singer did not fully understand what she was doing.

The connection to Judaism

As you may recall, in 105 Madonna was interviewed by the Irish Independent newspaper and said that although she is not Jewish, she defines herself as a “daughter of Israel” and therefore it is important for her to maintain a connection to the Jewish tradition, and especially to Kabbalah.

She acquires her knowledge of Kabbalah theory at the Los Angeles Kabbalah Center, which is led by much of Philip Berg. Other gestures she made in connection with Judaism were the adoption of the Hebrew name “Esther”, a white Bar Mitzvah celebration, and a decision not to perform on Fridays and Saturdays.

The strange gesture

The singer decided to make a tribute to this week’s Torah portion of two weeks ago, when she made a tattoo on her wrist in Hebrew of the word “Vishkahu”.

The word is taken from the parsha “Vishlach”, from the moment of the meeting between Yaakov and Eisav when the first one returns from years in which he was with the son of Aram. The tattoo is dotted, with the flavors that accompany it in the Torah scroll and the dots that appear above it according to biblical writing.

Madonna wrote on Instagram that she explained to her daughter about the tattoo, and explained to her in English that the word “Vishkahu” is a kiss. But it turns out that the singer made a fuss, because although it is indeed the literal translation, according to many commentators the points that appear above the word in the Torah indicate that Jacob did not kiss his brother wholeheartedly, after the quarrel he had with their sons.

In any case, getting a tattoo as a tribute to Judaism is a very strange choice, because the prohibition “do not make a tattoo”.
