The workers of the General Electricity Company in Misurata accused the Chairman of the Board of Directors of declaring war on the city and depriving it of all its legitimate allocations.

In a statement obtained by “Ain Libya” after a protest on Tuesday, the company’s employees expressed their surprise at what they described as the siege imposed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Electricity Company on the city of Misurata.

The statement indicated that the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, since assuming his duties, has completely stopped the disbursement of all types of different materials used in developing the company’s work despite the need for them, which has led to damage to the network, despite the disbursement of huge budgets by the Government of National Unity to the company and the unlimited support in order to restore life to electricity.

According to the statement, the company’s chairman also stopped development operations and the provision of services to citizens, creating bottlenecks that brought the network to the brink of collapse.

The workers pointed out in their statement that the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company issued his instructions to transfer the transformer (220 kV) supplied to the city of Misurata to be installed in the Dafniya area to the city of Tripoli, despite the city’s urgent need for the transformer.

The workers of Misurata Electricity Company demanded that the Government of National Unity take urgent measures, including:

  • Immediate suspension of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Electricity Company from work
  • Referring the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Electricity Company to investigation and legal accountability
  • Forming a steering committee from among the company’s specialists to manage the General Electricity Company’s business until a new board of directors is formed to manage the company.
