Misurata General Forum stressed the rejection of tribal and ethnic fanaticism, as “we are all from Adam, and Adam was made of dust.”

The closing statement of the forum, a copy of which was obtained by “Ain Libya”, stated that the good people of the nation called out in the city of Misurata, with no concern other than the elevation of this country, realizing that what unites them is greater than anything else that can separate them, and that the secret of their strength was and still is their word alone on the truth, even if their inclinations, opinions and ideas differ.

The forum statement also stressed the rejection of exclusion due to differences in visions, but rather the difference in ideas is an advantage that it blesses.

The forum called for the use of reason in every situation, and the rejection of the use of violence, “so that none of us should raise weapons against the other, no matter how much we differ,” and “we should be a structure that repels injustice and preserves rights for their owners, as everyone is under the authority of the law.”

The statement stressed the principle of freedom of expression, no matter how different and diverse opinions are, “There will be no gagging of those who speak the truth from now on.”

The participants in the forum also stressed the unity of Libyan territory and the preservation of its independence, security and freedom from foreign presence in all its forms.

The statement called on the High National Elections Commission to expedite the holding of municipal elections and the referendum on the constitution and to develop a rapid strategy for the general elections to consolidate the principle of peaceful transfer of power.

The statement concluded by saying: “We, the people of Misurata, assure everyone that we will not be a stumbling block in building Libya, and we extend our hands to all Libyans to build a state of citizenship, a state of justice and law.”
