Reminiscing, Shabana Azmi said, ‘I remember, Mithun used to come to my house. Mithun always thought about his skin color and crooked teeth. My mother used to hug Mithun forcefully and tell him not to think so much about these things. You dance very well.’

Not only Shabana Azmi, Mithun himself has talked about his skin color in several interviews. In Mithun’s words – ‘I used to suffer from inferiority due to my dark complexion. So I thought, I can’t change my skin color. But I can act as a villain in the movie. After that I came back with training from film institute. Despite my insecurities about my skin color, I knew I could dance well, fight scenes well. I wanted to do something so that the audience recognized my talent, not my skin color. I created my own style of dance.’

Mithun Chakraborty made his film debut in 1976 with the movie ‘Mrigaya’. This movie made him an overnight star. He won the National Film Award of India as the best actor for acting in this Bengali language movie. Mithun entered Bollywood in the same year. Hindi film industry continues to give hit movies. Became known as ‘Mahaguru’ by devotees.
