Sasthamcotta, Kerala – Police have filed a case against the school manager, headmistress, and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) following the death of an eighth-grader. The student, identified as Mithun, died from electrocution at Thevalakkara Boys High School at approximately 9:15 a.m. Initially classified as an unnatural death, the case escalated following protests. Authorities have since filed a report in the Sasthamkotta Magistrate Court after an investigation into the incident.

Investigators have recorded statements from teachers, the school management committee, and KSEB officials. The accident occurred near the bicycle shed, an area previously identified for construction. While the Minagappally Panchayat had issued a fitness certificate for the area, it was later rescinded. Action has been taken based on the argument that the certificate was issued without proper authorization. Police anticipate the investigation will conclude within three months.

Classes Resume Amidst Grief

Thevalakkara Boys High School is set to reopen for classes today, six days after the tragic incident. Lessons will be held at the nearby Girls High School. To support students, counseling sessions will be provided to all students across both schools, addressing the trauma from Mithun’s electrocution. Two counselors will be available at each school for two days.

The School Management Committee has informed the Department of Education about the accident site. The school premises, including trees and a disused water tank, have been cordoned off.
