On Saturday, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, discussed the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region and the Great Sea Interconnector project, among other things, with the two leaders to agree to hold a joint Greece-Cyprus-France meeting in New York in the coming days.
According to a written statement by the Cypriot government representative, Constantinos Letympiotis, during their communication, Christodoulidis and Macron discussed the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, expressed their common concern for possible further destabilization and deterioration of the situation in the region and discussed ways of de-escalation of tension.
At the same time, it is added that the two leaders discussed the project of the Greece-Cyprus electrical interconnection (GSI), in the context of the participation of a company of French interests.
It is noted that “both underlined the importance of this project of common interest in the implementation of the energy goals of the European Union”.
In this context, as reported, it was also agreed to hold a joint meeting of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and French President Emmanuel Macron in New York next week, within the framework of the work of the United Nations General Assembly .
During the discussion, reference was also made to the upcoming Med9 Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Paphos, on October 11, and in which President Macron will participate.
