“Unfortunately, we could not reach any conclusions due to the persistent refusal of Hungary and Poland,” said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his statements after the end of the Summit, pointing out the need to guard the borders.

“Regarding the protection of the external borders, the cooperation with the countries of origin of immigration, the return of those who are not entitled to asylum to the countries of origin, there is a universal agreement of the member states”, he emphasized.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the “need to cooperate with the countries of North Africa and to crush the networks of traffickers so that vulnerable people do not enter the sappiocarava”.

He mentioned that far fewer boats are coming from Turkey. “According to the statistics in the last 4 years far fewer people have died in the Aegean because far fewer boats have arrived. We have to work with the countries, with Libya, and discourage traffickers from putting people on the boats.”

“Re-Approach Path”
Asked about his upcoming meeting with Turkish President Erdogan in Vilnius, he replied: “It will be the first after the re-election of both of us. It is an opportunity to redefine the framework of the Greek-Turkish relations and to chart a path of rapprochement, without Greece retreating from its red lines”, underlining at the same time the limited Turkish transgressions in the air, recently, but also the “better cooperation with the Turkish authorities” in immigration.

On an economic level and when asked about the investment level, he underlined that “it is a matter of time”, as “the only obstacle was the political uncertainty ahead of the elections”. He also referred to the Bank of Greece’s forecasts for growth rates, which he described as “encouraging”.

As for dealing with accuracy, Mr. Mitsotakis said that “the household basket will continue for another six months”, as “it was a successful measure”, which “was copied by other countries”, saying that “in the program statements I will be more specific about the government’s response to inflation.”

And he added: “The answer is the compression of prices and permanent wage increases, this is the policy of our government, this will unfold in the program statements.”

Asked to comment on Tsipras’ resignation, Mr. Mitsotakis refused to answer, noting that the main concern is the implementation of the government project.
