“I respect, honor and bow my head to the families of the victims in Tempi”, emphasized the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his TV interview with SKAI and the program “Mismatches” with Christos Koutras and Yiannis Dsounos, during which the questions were raised about a gang and two disappeared wagons. “Only Justice can have the final say. It is logical that the process in the Parliament is politicized with the opposition accusing the government in order to gain political benefits.”

The prime minister said that “we don’t want another six years like in the Mati trial” and spoke of a quick process, accusing politicians of building their careers on the Tempe accident.

He said about the collection: “What to cover up. I won’t forget the images, the smells. I knew the ground had to be stabilized, the cranes had to go and find piles of debris. I’m sorry and angry for those who talk about cheating.”

“What happened to those wagons? Were they seduced? The first expert didn’t say any of that.”

Referring to statements and accusations of politicians, he accused Kyriakos Velopoulos of “trying to build a political career on Tempi”.

“Anyone who believes that there are criminal responsibilities that should be attributed to political figures has only to file a request with a specific indictment,” he added.

And he concluded: “I am the first to take responsibility for doing something else. Step by step to put in order the most problematic part of the public sector, the railways. Right now the railway is as safe as it can be carrying the pathogens of the past (…). We must also look at the human factor.”

“To be held accountable” for the transphobic attack in Thessaloniki
Earlier, he referred to the transphobic attack in Thessaloniki, saying that “responsibilities must be attributed, arrests have been made. Greece shouldn’t be a country where someone doesn’t feel comfortable moving around on the road as they want.”

Referring to youth crime and violent incidents that are more and more frequent, he announced that the platform for bullying is being activated immediately. Shortly after, he underlined that “the presence of the police has intensified, mainly in the neighborhoods, especially in the most difficult ones”.

“The interventions in the stadiums have produced positive results”
Regarding criminality and fan violence, he stated: “There is definitely a significant progress in the affairs of the Greek Mafia (…). On the issue of fan violence, obviously we are still waiting for ELAS to complete its investigation into the death of the policeman in Rentis, but the interventions we have made so far seem to have produced positive results, the image of the stadiums is an image that is not seen to have tension”.

“In football, at least, we seem to be in the right direction, in basketball we have gone much further. We will get there in football as well, as long as everyone wants it,” he added.

No Easter allowance will be given

Answering a related question, the prime minister was clear: “No, there won’t be. Right now we have a difficult budget to implement. We have made interventions in areas such as doctors that we want to strengthen.”

“If we can do something we will have to do it accountable at the end of the year”, he said then and explained that it will not be given because it is “difficult due to the budgetary margins”.

As he added, “it would be very easy to say ‘elections are coming, give something’ but I won’t”.

Regarding the increase in the minimum wage, he stated that it will be over 800 euros, it will be implemented from April and it will entail benefits as well as three years.
