jpnn.comJAKARTA – Chairman of Commission II DPR Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda said democracy in Indonesia was entering a new era.
This was after the Constitutional Court (MK) abolished the norm regarding the threshold for candidacy for the President of the Republic of Indonesia or the Presidential Threshold in the Election Law.
“I think this is a new chapter for our constitutional democracy,” he said via messaging service, Thursday (2/1).
According to Rifqi, Rifqinizamy Karsayuda’s nickname, the Constitutional Court’s decision to remove the threshold means that there will be many candidates for the presidential election.
“The opportunity to nominate president and vice president could be more open, followed by more candidate pairs with more open conditions,” continued the NasDem faction legislator.
He said that parliament respected the Constitutional Court’s decision to abolish the norm regarding the threshold for candidacy for the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
“Whatever it is, the Constitutional Court’s decision is final and binding, therefore we respect it and we are obliged to follow it up,” he said.
Rifqi said the DPR and the government would follow up on the Constitutional Court’s decision to create new norms regarding presidential candidacy.
