jpnn.comJAKARTA – Executive Director of Political Parameters Adi Prayitno said that the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which abolished the Presidential Threshold rule could actually present many candidates in the 2029 presidential election.
“Based on democratic procedures, the impact of this MK decision should be that there will be so many alternative candidates in the presidential election,” Adi told media crew, Friday (3/1).
However, he said, the Constitutional Court’s decision felt useless in presenting many presidential candidates if Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto ran to contest in 2029.
According to Adi, parties that can actually nominate their own candidates will recalculate their support if Prabowo runs in the 2029 presidential election.
“It feels like even if the parties participating in the election are allowed to put forward presidential and vice presidential candidates, they are not likely, or are afraid to nominate candidates, because they are definitely afraid of competing with Prabowo,” he continued.
Adi thinks the party will have difficulty winning the political contest against Prabowo, who is the incumbent.
“It is difficult for the party to fight against Prabowo, who has been assessed as perhaps it will be easy to win the umpteenth battle,” he said.
Adi believes that the Constitutional Court’s decision ultimately created the figure of Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka who has a big chance of fighting Prabowo in 2029.
Executive Director of Political Parameters, Adi Prayitno, said that the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the nomination threshold could give rise to a duel between these two figures.
