jpnn.comJAKARTA – Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan DPP, Said Abdullah, touched on the qualitative nature of the requirements for presidential or vice presidential candidates in response to the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which abolished the rules regarding the threshold for candidacy for the President of the Republic of Indonesia or the Presidential Threshold (PT).
According to Said, this requirement will refer to constitutional engineering which was revealed by the Constitutional Court when deciding case number 62/PUU-XXII/2024.
“We can also carry out the constitutional engineering ordered by the Constitutional Court in considering its decision by regulating the requirements for presidential and vice presidential candidates,” he said in his press statement, Thursday (2/1).
It is known that the Constitutional Court, in its decision to remove the threshold for the nomination of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, provided guidance to the DPR in the form of constitutional engineering.
This constitutional engineering was revealed so that in the future there would not be too many presidential and vice presidential candidates after the Constitutional Court’s decision removed the nomination threshold.
However, the MK asked for constitutional engineering to still pay attention to the political parties participating in the election who have the right to nominate presidential and vice presidential candidates.
Said said that the DPR could require presidential and vice-presidential candidates to fulfill the aspects of having a leadership spirit, experience, knowledge and integrity in responding to the constitutional engineering of the Constitutional Court.
Later, said Said, whether the examiners for the presidential and vice presidential candidates meet the requirements or not will come from state institutions or representatives of community figures.
