MK Zvi Sukkot’s first bill: a high financial fine for those who incite terrorism

by time news

Today (Wednesday) Member of Knesset Zvi Sukkot submitted his first bill – the “Incitement Law”.

In 2016, the Knesset enacted the Anti-Terrorism Law and established a prison sentence for identifying with a terrorist organization or an act of terrorism. Although the opening of an investigation in these cases is conditional on the approval of the state attorney or on his behalf, and the submission of the indictment is conditional on the approval of the Attorney General. In addition, in these cases identification with a terrorist organization must also be proven. This procedure makes enforcement difficult and harms its effectiveness. According to publications, during the year 2020-2021, less than fifty indictments were filed, including the instigators during the Wall Guard events, and the sentences handed down by the court were relatively very low.

MK Zvi Sukkot’s new bill adds a significant tool to the toolbox of the fight against terrorism and establishes a fine of NIS 10,000 in the case of waving a flag or symbol of a terrorist organization, as well as a photo of a terrorist who carried out an attack.

Member of the Sukkot Knesset: “Just a few days ago we saw how the wild incitement to terrorism leads to murderous attacks. The law will add to the enforcement systems an effective and easy tool that will prevent incitement celebrations. Just as a policeman gives a traffic report with a financial fine, so will he give an incitement report with A monetary fine. The immediate pain in the pocket will weaken motivation, and this is the deep solution that can prevent the incitement celebrations and save Jewish lives.”
