The 35-year-old MMA fighter Ivan Zapryanov is the new head of the “Youth Activities and Sports” department in the Plovdiv municipality. He won a competition announced due to the retirement of his predecessor Petar Zehtinski, the city administration announced.
As “24 Chasa” already wrote, two candidates appeared in the competition for the position – Zapryanov and Georgi Delov. However, the second one was not admitted because he did not have a completed higher education in the field of sports, nor the required experience in a management position of 4 years.
Ivan Zapryanov graduated from the National Sports Academy. He is a former national in sambo and judo, has experience in mixed martial arts as well as in organizing competitions and sports events. The new head of the department indicated as his priority the development of mass sports and sports among adolescents, including the fight against problems such as childhood obesity and immobility.
“Another important emphasis in my work will be the development of school sports and holding interschool competitions,” said Zapryanov. He indicated that he will continue to rely on the experience of Petar Zehtinski in order to have continuity and at the same time upgrade.
