Mobility and traffic – THAT is what Germans expect from the new government – domestic policy

by time news

Change of epoch in the Ministry of Transport! In five weeks, according to the plan of the traffic light coalition, there will be a new traffic light transport minister.

The ADAC has already asked which topics people in Germany would implement first if they were transport ministers.

Most important topic: road safety!

72 percent of those surveyed said that it is very important to them that the next federal government strengthen this issue.

▶ ︎ The most important measures for road safety: 49 percent said that they would be the first to introduce a turning and emergency braking assistant for trucks. 46 percent would make the streets safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. The safety of truck drivers (more parking spaces on motorways, stricter controls on rest times) is important to 34 percent. And 32 percent would upgrade the country roads first.

Public transport

The second most important transport issue for people in Germany: public transport. For 63 percent of those surveyed, it is very important that the next federal government takes care of the subject of trains and buses.

▶ ︎ At the same time, the expansion of public transport is also the most important issue (72 percent) in order to protect the climate in the transport sector. 57 percent also support the development of climate-neutral fuels, so-called “eFuels”, for climate protection.

55 percent are calling for the “commuter flat rate” to be abolished and instead a mobility premium for all commuters from the first kilometer – the background: the additional burdens resulting from climate protection measures are intended to be cushioned.

ADAC traffic president Gerhard Hillebrand also says about the current traffic light negotiations to BILD: “The negotiating parties must succeed in gaining the public’s acceptance for climate protection measures.”

BECAUSE: When it comes to the most important issues for the upcoming government, climate and environmental protection in traffic and mobility only make it to fifth place. 55 percent of those surveyed consider this issue to be very important.

Hillebrand: “People are dependent on mobility, loads have to be cushioned with a higher commuter flat rate. Many people do not support additional selective measures to increase the price, such as drastically increasing parking fees or city tolls. Restrictions and prohibitions are not a suitable way. “
