Moderate Earthquake of 4.5 Magnitude Strikes Evia, Felt Strongly in Athens

Earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale occurred in Evia, a few minutes before 10:53 p.m., according to the Geodynamic Institute of Athens.

The focal depth of the earthquake was estimated at 15.4 kilometers, while the epicenter was determined to be 4 kilometers southeast of Vasilika Istiaias. By 11:27, at least three more earthquakes had been recorded, with magnitudes of 1.4, 1.7, and 1.8 on the Richter scale.

The seismic tremor was particularly felt in Attica. The Euro-Mediterranean Institute initially estimated the magnitude of the earthquake to be 4.6 on the Richter scale.

E. Lekkas: A common phenomenon

Speaking to ERT, the professor of Natural Disaster Management at EKPA, Efthymios Lekkas, appeared reassuring, stating that this is a common phenomenon in the specific area. He noted that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Psaropouli area. “We are monitoring the evolution of the phenomenon,” he added.

The Euro-Mediterranean Institute estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 4.6 on the Richter scale.
