This pop parody is a musical nod!

The pop stars Ross Antony (49) and Eloy de Jong (50) have recorded a duet together (“Much more than the best”). And the music video for it has it all: it’s a homage to Modern Talking like you’ve never seen before!

Ross and Eloy just start singing in normal outfits. But then the director interrupts her and says: “That’s boring, I think you need to change.” The two singers start again – but disguised as Modern Talking!

Then the two sing their way through three historical backdrops from Modern Talking videos (“You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul”, “Cheri, Cheri Lady” and “Geronimo’s Cadillac”).

At the very end the camera turns to the director and you see: It’s Thomas Anders! He says to the two of them: “Yes, it’s possible, boys, if you try a little bit.”

What made Thomas Anders appear in the video as himself? Unlike BILD: “For me, the shoot was like a journey through time! I’ve experienced it all before. The chessboard, the keyboard, the Cadillac – amazing! When I was asked, I really wanted to have this experience.”

How does he like Ross and Eloy as Modern Talking? “Eloy is doing fantastic! The facial expressions, the clothes, everything was right. He just needs to learn to play the keyboard! And Ross plays the guitar in the video just as well as Dieter did. I laughed in tears when I saw Ross as Dieter.”

Eloy de Jong says to BILD: “The fact that Thomas appears in the video is of course an accolade – even if I was sometimes a little worried about whether he would like our satire. But he was totally laughing every time I looked at him. I have to say I can now understand his former love of lip gloss!”

Ross Antony to BILD: “I was impressed by the attention to detail in the video – from the outfit and the decorations to Thomas’ necklace. We even found an original red 80s keytar (a shoulder keyboard, editor) on Ebay.”

Was it easy for him to make the plank? “It wasn’t difficult to find my role, I was completely Dieter. When Eloy stood next to me in a Thomas Anders outfit, we were really modern talking for a few minutes!”

Do Ross and Eloy now want to form a new duo like Thomas Anders and Florian Silbereisen or will the duet remain a one-off excursion?

Ross Antony: “Never say never – never say never!” It’s a lot of fun to sing with Eloy. We’ve had a similar journey, from a band to a solo artist, which brings us together and we know what’s important to each other. We just harmonize, even though we are so different.”

Eloy de Jong: “Let’s see what the future brings. At least I would be totally happy. As you can see from our video, neither of us take ourselves too seriously. These are good conditions for lots of fun together.”

Thomas Anders definitely gives the two of them his blessing. The singer: “It’s great to see that two colleagues are making this effort to create a monument to Modern Talking. Of course I want to support that.”
