historians and philosophers contemporaries refer to the present as “postmodernity”. We are now interested in abstracting from such an approach and focusing on the “modernity”. It is the phenomenon in which the human faces his life, convinced that the appropriate thing is to adapt it to the moment. Put aside the past, in the spirit of showing yourself as a current being. The future for the entity is, likewise, a “coming” that is equally called upon to always be innovative.

The person agrees to a process of constant adaptation of their work ethical and aesthetic to the imperatives of a society that disrespects and subjugates him. The determining thing is to show oneself as part of the psychosocial gear, on pain of becoming a crazy “something” that denies the impositions of an overwhelming society. He renounces his individuality… the important thing is to “seem” rather than “be”.

Among the scholars in the matter is B. Echeverría (1941 – 2010), the most important Ecuadorian philosopher. He developed his academy at UNAM. He is the author of fifteen theses on modernity and capitalism. Thesis 4 exposes the “characteristic features of modern life”. The “progressivism”he affirms, consists in the affirmation of a mode of historicity in which the “in-novation” or substitution of the new for the old prevails over that of “renewal” or restoration of the old as new. He adds that “all the devices that lead to the reproduction process of society” (…) are immersed in “an unstoppable change that would take them from what is backward to what is advanced, from what is defective to what is insurmountable.” Consequently, he arrives at the “modernist” trait. According to Echeverría, the consumerism of modern life is a “desperate attempt to catch the present that is passing without having yet arrived.”

The modernity it gravitates so conclusively in man that it turns him into an inauthentic entity. It is an obsessive claim to consolidate his “novelty” even at the cost of his convictions. He descends into a pit of pitiful insubstantiality that ends up breaking him down. End.
