Kyiv: Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, India is constantly appealing for peace. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is emphasizing on mutual dialogue during his meeting with the leaders of both countries. PM Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the US a few days ago. After this, Zelensky told the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday that he has organized the second international peace summit to end his country’s long-running war with Russia. He has already invited India to participate in this conference.
Zelensky said – we invited India
Zelenskyy emphasised that “unity always works for peace.” He called for collective readiness from all countries to completely end the war. “And I invite all of you, all major nations to join this process, all who truly respect the UN Charter. We invite China. We invite Brazil. I have already invited India. We are working with African countries, all countries in Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia, Europe, the Pacific region and North America,” Zelenskyy said while addressing the UNSC meeting.
Zelensky appeals for peace
The Ukrainian President stressed that the second peace summit will lead to real peace and pointed to the UN Charter as one of the ways to achieve it. “This process will lead us to peace, just peace, real peace, lasting peace. We all already know how to achieve it. We have the peace formula; we have the UN Charter, and we have all the strength needed to achieve it. All that is needed is determination,” Zelensky said.
What is India’s intention in the Russia-Ukraine war
Foreign Minister Dr. S Jaishankar has said, “We do not have any peace plan, nor are we suggesting anything. We are talking and sharing our conversations with other parties. Both sides appreciate it.” Jaishankar has also said earlier that we are not in any position to become a mediator nor are we trying to do so. He has also said that no party has approached us to become a mediator.
what did PM Modi say
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Ukrainian President on Monday during his three-day visit to the United States. Later, PM Modi said on X, “We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month to strengthen bilateral relations.” PM Modi reiterated India’s support for an early resolution of the conflict and restoration of peace and stability in Ukraine.
India participated in the first Ukraine Peace Summit
An Indian delegation from the Ministry of External Affairs participated in the ‘Summit on Peace in Ukraine’ hosted by Switzerland in Bürgenstock on June 15-16. Though India did not sign any communiqué or outcome document from the summit, the Ministry of External Affairs said India will continue to engage with all stakeholders to end the conflict as soon as possible.
