MADRID, 30 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, will not deliver any official speech on the occasion of the anniversary in August of the exile of his grandfather Mohamed V, according to a statement released this Friday by the Royal House, which alleges that this “memorable” event “cannot be measured only with speeches and celebrations”.

The monarch, increasingly removed from public life, habitually makes four speeches a year, coinciding with designated dates. One of them is the Revolution of the King and the People, every August 20, but it will not be like that this year, according to an official note collected by the MAP news agency.

The Royal House alleges that the anniversary, on August 20, will be celebrated “a few days after” the Feast of the Throne -although it takes place on July 30– and “before” the royal speech at the opening of sessions in the Parliament –in mid-October–.

Despite the “historical epic” that Rabat attributes to the exile of Mohamed V and the fight for independence, which “incarnates the strong symbiosis and unbreakable ties that have always united the throne and the people”, on this occasion the “memorable revolution “It will not come accompanied by a speech from the current king. Yes there will be “academic, cultural, artistic, sports and other events, in all regions of the kingdom.”

However, according to the note from the Royal House, Mohamed VI “reserves the decision to address his faithful people at any time and occasion that (…) he deems appropriate.”

Speculation about a possible deterioration in the king’s health has been a constant in recent months, as he has reduced his public appearances and changed his physical image. This week, however, he went to a mosque and participated in the sacrificial feast, along with his son and his heir, Mulay Hassan.
