This operation, carried out in collaboration with the provincial delegation of Health and Social Protection in Ouarzazate, aims to bring health services closer to the population of several douars affected by the heavy snowfalls recorded recently in certain areas of this province.

This two-day medical caravan is also part of efforts to strengthen access to care and improve medical services for populations in need.

Abderrahman Saber, head of the project development division at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, said that this caravan comes in the wake of medical and social support for populations from the douars of the province of Ouarzazate affected by the heavy snowfalls recorded recently.

He stressed, in a statement to MAP, that this local medical campaign, organized in close collaboration with the provincial Health delegation and the provincial authorities, also involves emergency medical aid for the beneficiaries.

This multidisciplinary medical caravan offers consultations in particular in general medicine, ophthalmology, pediatrics, genecology, gastroenterology and pneumology, he continued, adding that a mobile laboratory has been mobilized to carry out biological analyses on site for the benefit of patients.

A mobile radiology unit, as well as mobile medical units mobilized by local authorities are also available to this medical caravan, whose services are provided by a staff of more than 40 general practitioners and specialists, as well as by paramedical staff, said Mr. Saber.

He indicated that this medical caravan will go, in a second stage, to the territorial commune of Imi N’oulaoune.

Mr. Saber noted that, in parallel with these caravans, emergency interventions are carried out through helicopters of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the Royal Gendarmerie, as well as by land.

“On Wednesday alone, 4 cases were urgently evacuated to the Sidi Hsain Benaceur provincial hospital in Ouarzazate for medical monitoring,” he said on this subject.

He also stressed that, thanks to the efforts of local authorities and all stakeholders, the majority of the douars affected by the heavy snowfalls recorded recently have been opened up.

For her part, the provincial delegate of Health and Social Protection in Ouarzazate, Badiaa El Abdellaoui, stressed that this medical caravan is part of efforts to mitigate the effects of the cold wave and heavy snowfall on the affected population.

This medical campaign, which covers several specialties, benefited, during its first day, more than 1,000 people from the affected douras of the commune of Tidili, she said, adding that medicines were distributed for the benefit of patients who also benefited from medical analyses.

Mrs. El Abdellaoui noted that the provincial delegation of Health and Social Protection in Ouarzazate has mobilized all of its human and logistical resources to care for people requiring hospitalization at the Sidi Hsain Benaceur hospital, which has dedicated 82 beds to these possible cases.

The official also said that the provincial delegation has just received a large batch of 32 tons of medicines to deal with the effects of the cold wave on the population of the province of Ouarzazate.

The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity continues to deliver emergency humanitarian aid to the rural populations of the province of Ouarzazate, affected by the current cold snap and snowfall, as part of the emergency intervention carried out on the high instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The Foundation’s teams are hard at work in the mountainous and landlocked communities of this province where they have distributed emergency humanitarian aid, consisting of food products and blankets, for the benefit of populations affected by severe weather and snowfall in several douars.

The affected rural population also benefits from appropriate social support and local medical care.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI has given his high instructions to deploy an emergency intervention in favor of the populations affected by the current cold snap and snowfall.

A significant human, technical and logistical system is being put in place. Dedicated teams of social workers and doctors from the Foundation, acting in coordination with the relevant departments and local authorities, are being deployed on the ground to meet the needs of the impacted areas in the provinces of Zagora, Ouarzazate and Taroudant.
