In 2015, while pregnant with her youngest child, Bethany noticed a dark spot on her skin. 18 months later, a painful mole appeared and a biopsy revealed that it was, in fact, an aggressive form of skin cancer called desmoplastic melanoma. Doctors removed it, but it turned out that cancer had spread to her bones and lymph nodes. So in October 2016, Bethany started immunotherapy.

“The radiation was absolutely the worst. It was clear and simple,” she said. “It baked the inside of my mouth. My throat was so sore. My skin was covered in sores,” Bethany writes. She adds, “Now I’m almost completely cured from the radiation.”

“Please stop sunbathing and go to tanning salons,” she says. “A tan isn’t a healthy glow — it’s damaged skin.”
