CERMES. There are some women who chose Cermes to try to defraud especially the elderly. In some cases, it seems, they also succeeded by collecting small sums from those who had been called by them, in a fraudulent manner, to pay money to the Municipality by presenting bills relating to various services of the public body.
Fortunately, someone became suspicious and asked the town hall for information. There sindaca Astrid Kuprian he reacted immediately with a message on Facebook in which he highlighted, with some concern, that “there are scammers in action in the town”. The heartfelt plea follows: “Don’t give anyone cash for council tax when these scammers turn up on your doorstep. The Municipality always sends invoices payable by bank transfer, Sepa or pagoPa”.
The complaint.
The mayor herself confirms that «there are some women who go around the houses showing bills that refer to various services offered by the Municipality. Maximum attention must be paid to these people who have evidently studied the scam attempt very well, proof of which is that they took great care in printing the false bills. I have also filed a complaint with the police so that they can deal with similar attempts which can also be carried out in other municipalities.”
The appeal.
The report that caught the mayor’s attention came from an elderly person in Cermes who had already paid a small amount. «Seeing as he didn’t have the money needed to cover the amount of the false bill – the first citizen says – he went to the bank to withdraw the money needed for the balance. An official from the credit institution understood everything in time and notified one of my collaborators.” Mayor Kuprian adds: “Be extremely careful and absolutely do not pay anyone who asks you for money in this way.” E.D.
