Since early May, 550 cases of monkeypox have been recorded in 30 countries outside Africa, the World Health Organization announced on Wednesday. Almost all of the cases were infected by a sick person and the majority of them come from the male homosexual community.
The mostly mild disease spread to Norway and Hungary this week. And the number of patients is still increasing on the Old Continent, in particular in the United Kingdom (190 cases), in Spain (156), in Portugal (138) and in France (33). The Dr Daniel Bausch, president of the ASTMH (American Society of Medicine and Hygiene in Tropical Disease), professor of tropical medicine in London, is also director of emerging threats at the NGO Find. It rules out the danger of a new pandemic.
