Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has taken the help of langurs to deal with the monkey menace at the Green Park Stadium, the venue of the ongoing second Test match between India and Bangladesh. This decision was taken to protect fans, employees and broadcasters from monkeys who may enter the stadium in search of food and create havoc. Before the start of the match, venue director Sanjay Kapoor said while talking to the media, ‘We have deployed langurs to avoid the terror of monkeys.’

Broadcasters are most at risk

The use of langurs is a common practice in the city to deal with monkey menace. Even before, his presence on this ground has proved effective during international matches. The UPCA has also taken several other measures, such as covering the high stands, where television crews place their cameras, with black cloth on both the sides and back, to prevent monkeys from entering the stands. During the match, the camera crew present in the stands are most at risk from the monkeys.

Monkeys are afraid of baboons
In such a situation, to avoid the terror of monkeys, langurs have been deployed at different places in the stadium. India’s position is strong on Friday, the first day of the rain-affected second Test match. By the end of the day’s play, Bangladesh had scored 107 runs for three wickets. At this time Mushfiqur Rahim (six) and Mominul Haq (40) were present at the crease. For India, fast bowler Akashdeep took two wickets for 34 runs. While he was effective in his initial spell, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin completely pushed Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto onto the backfoot.
