Shocking Rise of Monkeypox Cases in Thailand: More than 10 Times Higher than Asia and the World

Thailand is currently experiencing a skyrocketing epidemic of Monkeypox, with the country recording more than 10 times the number of cases seen in Asia and the rest of the world. According to the latest data revealed by Dr. Teera Worathanarat from the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, there have been a total of 461 reported cases of Monkeypox in Thailand as of October 1.

Dr. Teera further highlighted that from the beginning of this year until August 31, 2023, there were 316 documented cases, averaging about 5 new cases per day. However, the statistics are even more troubling when considering the figures as of September 18, which revealed a total of 385 cases, indicating an average of 6 new cases per day in the second half of September. This alarming trend suggests that an outbreak is on the horizon.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Teera emphasized the importance of self-defense measures to curb the spread of Monkeypox. He urged people to avoid close contact with others outside their homes, refrain from sharing food and goods with others, and strongly discouraged promiscuity. Additionally, he stressed the significance of wearing masks to greatly reduce the risk of contracting various diseases.

Thailand’s weekly average of new Monkeypox cases per million population is also considerably higher than the global average across all continents. The country’s status as a high-risk nation for new Monkeypox infections has caused concerns among health officials and the general population.

As the number of cases continues to rise, it is crucial for individuals to be vigilant about their health and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others. The Thai government is expected to implement stringent measures to control the spread of Monkeypox and contain the epidemic.]
