by time news

The first monkeypox case in Mexico has been confirmed. The disease was diagnosed in a 50-year-old U.S. citizen. Health officials concluded that he may have contracted the disease from the Netherlands.

The patient’s health condition is currently satisfactory. He was placed under observation. Authorities said they were investigating who the patient was in contact with. He added that the situation in the country was being monitored and steps were being taken to prevent the spread of the disease.

The monkeypox virus can be transmitted to humans through infected animals. Transmission from person to person is possible, but rare. Early symptoms include high fever, swollen lymph nodes, and chickenpox-like rash. Although there is no specific treatment, vaccination against smallpox has been found to be 85 percent effective in preventing monkeypox.
